MGS4 Tops Japan Charts

Media Create puts Metal Gear Solid 4 sales for its first week in Japan at 465,000 units. The other games in the top 10 sold a total of 216,000 units, while the #2 game accounted for 38,000 sales. Early reports indicate that PS3 outsold Wii by about 2:1 for the week, which would mark only the fourth time since launch that Sony’s console has managed to surpass Nintendo’s (the prior successes were during November 2007, in which Dynasty Warriors 6 and World Soccer Winning Eleven 2008 were both released).

Whether this performance is short-lived remains to be seen. However, this represents the PS3’s best performance since launch, and MGS4 will likely become Japan’s top third party game so far this generation as of next week.
